The ABLE program was developed as a project of Children In Families
(CIF), a local Cambodian non-profit, non-governmental organization addressing
the over-utilization of institutional care for children by supporting and
advocating for family-based solutions including foster care and kinship care.
The ABLE program provides community based rehabilitation services
to the children within CIF's foster care and kinship care programs who have
been identified as having a disability and/or special health concern, and the
families caring for them. Among the children we serve include children with
cerebral palsy, hydrocephalus, blindness, ASD, speech delays, learning
disabilities, genetic disorders/syndromes, cystic fibrosis, and AIDS.
The community based rehabilitation services we provide include
home-based direct therapeutic intervention, case management, nutritional
support, assistance with referral and access to other services including
medical services, equipment providers, and special education services. We
endeavor to ensure families caring for children with special needs have the
support and resources they need to thrive. With this in mind, we have plans to
develop a respite day center as well
